Ugh. I’m setting out from Kennedy Meadows today with a ton of food weight. Well, it feels like a ton. That in addition to the extra gear and heavier pack is going to make the first couple days rough (until I eat some of the food weight away). The hope is that I won’t have to resupply as often through the Sierra, but we’ll see what happens.
Wish me luck.

Good ol’ Ghostie.
Yes. You may remember it from such hikes as…the Finger Lakes Trail in 2006.
David – I am so excited to see your journey unfold (or stretch for miles) as you travel. My prayers are with you and Nicolle both for safety and sure footing. Did you hear Chris is a dad? How cool is that! Robert Mircea Minekime – the first Great Grandchild with the Minekime name! Whoot! Love you. Tracey
Is that picture GI Chan?
You look like a cross between robo cop and GI Joe
David – I am still in awe of your awesomeness! You asked us to wish you luck so I am sending you my “GOOD LUCK” and happy trails. Keep warm, keep safe and I look forward to reading more about your journey into the wilderness!
P.S. BEARS!!! Yikes!
My co-workers and I are walking the Pacific Crest Trail – symbolically of course, but inspired in part by your hike. We’re setting up a 4-month challenge starting July 1. We will all log our miles and other activities (converted to miles) and track our progress on a big map of the Pacific Crest trail. We get points for each park or forest we reach. At the end, there’s a drawing for prizes with chances dependent on points collected. We’re starting at the north. I’m hoping to get to Oregon. One co-workers is a marathoner, so she’s targeting the Mexican border.
Comet, don’t hurt yourself with that heavy load you’re carrying. It must feel weird. Glad you’re having a good hike so far.
Hey David, I just met you on the trail at Crag Creek south of Monache Meadow. I was with the group of 7 camping there and helped the Aussie girl (I forget her name) by taking food to lighten her load. I remembered your trail name so I looked you up. Good luck on your journey. I started at Campo many years ago and have only gotten to this point. It will be a pleasure to live vicariously through you with your trail journal as you continue north!
Good luck!
Reception must be bad for you. Frances visits tomorrow. I bought a new bed yesterday. Cool these days…to 90′s by 4th. I guess you will be in snow soon. Enjoy the food. Happy trails.
Amazing pictures buddy. I love all the shots of the food, makes me hungry every time I look at them. I hear its gonna be heating up, be safe, we miss you!
Thanks for the message Dan! The girls name was Vader. I haven’t seen her since that day but hope she is making miles just behind me somewhere!
Sandy that’s awesome. I would love to hear the progress of the contest. What is the closest PCT trail town to you?
Just to clarify…that photo was not of me!
